Whitesand First Nation, Canada
The Waboose Control Dam and the broader Ogoki River Diversion displace the Whitesand First Nation in 1942. They had lived on the shores of Lake Nipigon for generations, but were forced to resettle to Armstrong and other towns along the nearby railroad line. They reached a settlement with Ontario Power Generation in 2009 over the displacement. (Pictured: Whitesand First Nation activists in 2024. Photo credit: Mike Stimpson at SNnewswatch.)
