Additional People Displaced by Moses-Saunders Power Dam
Beyond residents of the 10 Lost Villages, an additional 3,000 people were displaced by the Moses-Saunders Power Dam. The total number of displaced people is estimated to have been about 6,500, and about 530 buildings were also moved. Upper Canada Village (pictured) is a living-history museum that represents what life was like in the region during the mid-19th century; it was founded in 1961, and many of its buildings were moved there from the Lost Villages. The Lost Villages Museum in South Stormont preserves the memories of these communities from the time before displacement.
