Kariba Dam - Displaced People
Many of the 57,000 people displaced by Kariba Dam were Gwembe Tonga and Kore Kore peoples. At the time, the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland governed the region, though the dam and its reservoir currently fall between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Over 6,000 animals (elephants, rhinos, antelopes, lions, leopards, zebras, and more) were rescued from the rising waters as well.
