Old Mirpur, Pakistan

Old Mirpur, Pakistan

Old Mirpur was inundated by Mangla Dam in 1961. It was found in Azad Kashmir, the Pakistani-administered portion of the disputed Kashmir region. Citizens of the town were largely Hindu and Sikh, and had already experienced displacement and resettlement after the 1947 partition of India. The number of displaced people from Old Mirpur itself is unclear, but Mangla Dam displaced about 100,000 in the region; a significant portion of the displaced people immigrated to the United Kingdom.
