Kwadacha, Canada

Kwadacha, also known as Fort Ware, is home to many members of the Kwadacha First Nation. W.A.C. Bennett Dam completely blocked their downstream travel route along the Finlay River. It also clogged the river with debris and led to the drowning of an estimated 12,000 moose and cut off access to the caribou migration, which affected Kwadacha First Nation hunters. The Nation received an initial settlement of $15 million CAD for these negative effects on their way of life.
