Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, Canada
The Churchill River Diversion inundated about 100,000 acres of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (Cree: ᓂᓯᒐᐚᔭᓯᕽ) territory. The Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation lost many sacred sites in the inundation brought by the diversion. Ancestors of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation have lived in the region for at least 10,000 years, and the Nation became a signatory to Treaty 5 in 1908. (Photo credit: Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.)
