Canada, York Factory First Nation

The York Factory First Nation (Cree: ᑭᐢᒋ ᐚᐢᑳᐦᐃᑲᐣ) was first displaced when the Hudson's Bay Company post at York Factory closed in 1957. The Nation moved from York Factory, near the mouths of the Nelson and Hayes Rivers, the negative effects of Kelsey Dam began to be felt at their new home on Split Lake. Both flooding and drought have been exacerbated by the dams, but the York Factory First Nation has only ever been compensated for the floods. (Pictured: York Factory in the 1930s.
