Fox Lake Cree Nation, Canada
The Fox Lake Cree Nation (Cree: ᒪᐦᑫᓯᐤ ᓵᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ) became an individual Band in 1947, though the nation is a signatory of the 1910 Treaty #5 through its parent Band, the York Factory First Nation. A series of dams and water structures built along the Nelson River has disrupted the Fox Lake Cree Nation's land and displaced its members since the 1960s; there have also been serious allegations of sexual abuse and other acts of violence perpetrated against Fox Lake Cree Nation people by Manitoba Hyrdo workers. A settlement was reached between the two parties in 2004.
