El Zangarro, Mexico
The Church of the Virgin of Dolores reappeared above La Purísima Reservoir's waterline in 2021. Prior to inundation, El Zangarro served as a hub for outlying ranches. Some inhabitants initially resisted displacement but, realizing that they had no recourse, El Zangarro residents eventually chose to relocate their town.
