Lake St. Martin First Nation, Canada
Over 1,000 members of the Lake St. Martin First Nation (Ojibwe: Obashkodeyaang) were displaced by the Assiniboine River Flood of 2011. During the severe flooding, the Government of Manitoba elected to divert water into Lake St. Martin, prioritizing the safety of other communities over the safety of the Lake St. Martin First Nation.
