Fort George, Canada

Fort George, Canada

Fort George was founded in 1803 by the Hudson's Bay Company. It was home to the Cree Nation of Chisasibi until 1981, when the community relocated to a nearby site (now named Chisasibi). Though Fort George was not inundated, erosion caused by the diversion of four rivers into the La Grande River's watershed endangered the town sufficiently to require relocation.
