Displaced by Kedung Ombo Dam
The Kedung Ombo Dam displaced around 24,000 people from thirty-seven villages. The dam was very controversial, and many villages refused to leave their homes even as they began to flood (pictured). Eight people drowned due to the inundation. Cases were brought before the Indonesian Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the displaced people in 1993 before cancelling their ruling in 1994.
