Seneca Village, New York
Map showing the location of Seneca Village before displacement. The residents of Seneca Village--a largely African-American and Irish immigrant community--were pushed out by eminent domain in the 1850s to make way for Central Park. This included the adjacent Central Park Reservoir, completed in 1862. The reservoir may have submerged some outlying parts of the village.
