White Swan, South Dakota
White Swan, named after an important Yankton Sioux chief, was settled in the 1860s. In the mid-twentieth century, it was a largely self-sufficient community that included both Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents. Prior to the community's inundation by Fort Randall Dam in 1952, USACE seized much of the land in White Swan via eminent domain.
