Towash, Texas
Towash was named after the leader of the Hainai group who settled the area in 1835. In 1850, the Hainai residents were displaced by white settlers, who established a gristmill, wool carding operation, and cotton gin. Towash's population began to dwindle in the 1870s, and Whitney Dam inundated what was left of the town in 1951.
