Niobrara, Nebraska
Image from a June 17, 1971 New York Times article entitled, "Nebraska Town, Slowly Drowning Near Federal Dam, May Move to Higher Ground." The nearby Gavins Point Dam, completed in 1956, resulted in rising groundwater and basement flooding in Niobrara and the town relocated in 1977. This was the second time the town had moved: it initially relocated after a series of 1881 floods.
