Glenville, North Carolina
When Glenville--originally named Hamburg--was formally incorporated in 1891, the small community was the biggest town in Jackson County, North Carolina. Thorpe Dam inundated Glenville in 1941. Part of the community was moved to the shores of the lake, although the relocated town of Glenville now largely consists of vacation homes.
