Ferguson, South Carolina

Santee Dam inundated the former lumber company town of Ferguson in the early 1940s. Although the town was abandoned after the Santee River Cypress Lumber Company closed in 1920, the dam displaced between 2500 and 3000 people who lived in the surrounding areas. Most of these residents were African-American tenant farmers.
