Elbowoods, North Dakota

Some residents of Elbowoods moved their houses to higher ground before the town was displaced by Garrison Dam. Prior to inundation, Elbowoods served as the agency seat for the Fort Berthold Reservation, home to members of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. Lake Sakakawea submerged a full quarter of the reservation, displacing 325 families in total.
