Monticello, California

Monticello in 1956, photographed by Pirkle Jones. That year, Jones and fellow photographer Dorothea Lange traveled to the Berryessa Valley to document the area before and during its destruction. Monticello Dam inundated the community--over the objections of local residents--in 1957.
