Shi Cheng, China
Xin’an Dam inundated Shi Cheng, a city that flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1912), in 1959. The hydroelectric project displaced approximately 300,000 residents. The submerged city is well preserved, and its archways and detailed stonework are popular with scuba divers.
