Lopeño, Texas

Residents of Old Lopeño relocated to a new town site on August 28, 1953, when pouring rain suddenly inundated the area behind the partially-completed Falcon Dam. Families were forced to leave their possessions and even pets behind, and some chose to walk instead of accepting rides from dam commissioners. Four-hundred and fifty families were displaced between Lopeño and the nearby community of Falcon.
