Pine, Idaho
A street in Pine, the main town in Idaho's Pine Grove mining district. Pine was settled as a mining camp in or around the 1860s. The 1888 discovery of the Franklin lode, located close to Pine, set off another gold rush in the Boise Basin. During this time, Pine grew into a town of two or three hundred residents that included stores, saloons, a schoolhouse, hotels, and a community hall that held dances. The construction of Anderson Ranch Dam displaced Pine: the Bureau of Reclamation bought up most of the land, and the majority of inhabitants had moved by the mid-1940s. Residents relocated the cemetery, a store, a warehouse, and other buildings to nearby New Pine.
