Foster, Oregon
Settlers arrived in the Foster area in the 1850s. The town they established was later named after a postmaster-general, who told residents that the community needed a name if it wanted to open a post office. A Mr. Doty started a grist mill in Foster around 1880, and the community also boasted a school, general store, and other businesses. Foster Grade School, pictured here, was rebuilt in the 1940s, just two decades before Green Peter and Foster Dams displaced the town.
