Chota, Tennessee
Chota was an important Cherokee town in the mid-1700s, and was at one point home to statesman and warrior Attakullakulla. By 1813 only one household was left, and the US government took over Chota six years later. After Tellico Dam inundated part of the townsite a monument--designed to look like a Cherokee townhouse--was built to honor the area's former residents.
