Sardar Sarovar Dam

Sardar Sarovar Dam

The Sardar Sarovar Dam is one of the largest dams in the world. The planning started in 1961, but construction did not begin until 1987. The project was stalled by the Supreme Court of India in 1995 over concerns about community displacement. In 2000, construction began again with different dimensions. When it was finally completed in 2017, the Sardar Sarovar Dam had displaced around 250,000 people.
